How to mount tv on wall

A Mount is required to mount the TV on the wall. One part of this mount is attached to the wall, the other to the TV.

TV mounts types

There are 3 main types of TV mounts.

  • Fixed mount (TV fixed flat to the wall).
  • Tilting mount (With angle changable - up or down).
  • Full-motion mount (up/down, left/right, closer/farther from the wall).

Same type mounts differ in design and the size of the TV they can hold. Mounts can be sold with TVs, such as a Samsung Frame TV.

Any mount can be attached to any wall, but not to any TV. Although, there are many universal mounts for sale and you can find the right one.

The most expensive mount is not necessarily the best choice for you.

What Wall to mount a TV on

Walls differ in what is inside and what is outside. Inside: cinder blocks, concrete blocks, brick masonry, wood studs, metal studs. Outside drywall or plaster. You need special anchors and bolts to mount a TV on each. I don't recommend to install tilting or full-motion mounts on metal studs wall. Or you need a big wood panel to install on the wall first.

In some houses wooden panels can be preinstalled in walls to mount TVs on.

Bigger TV

Bigger TVs make bigger pressure on the walls. Tilting and full motion mounts increase the pressure and can be installed on studs or bricks/blocks only.

Best place to mount a TV

Before you start, think about where you want to mount the TV - left, right, or centered on the wall, and at what height. Due to the studs, you may need to change the horizontal position of the TV. But most mounts allow you to move the TV slightly to the left or right.

Hide wires in wall

The power cable and other wires can be hidden inside the wall. With or without additional outlets. But wires hiding/in-wall wiring depends on wall type much. In-wall wires hiding impossible if it's not space inside the wall.

TV Samsung Frame extra box

When choosing a Samsung Frame TV, you need to remember that in order to reduce the thickness, the control unit is made separately from the TV, looks like a cable box and is connected to the TV with one thin cable. All devices are not connected to the TV, but to this control unit/box. It's the thinnest TV on the wall, but you get an extra electronic box.
